Ever looked at a job description (JD) for your dream job and felt intimidated? Not sure if you have all the skills?
Here is a simple visual tool to help you assess your skills against the JD and boost your confidence.
Step 1 – Review the JD: Read all the attributes and requirements.
Step 2 – Rate Yourself: Use a pen to mark each attribute / requirement with:
- G (Green) if you have the skills or experience.
- A (Amber) if you have most of them and are confident it will not be an issue.
- R (Red) if you definitely do not have those skills.
Step 3 – Add UP Your Scores: Count the number of G’s, A’s, and R’s.
Step 4 – What do the scores tell me
If you have more R’s than G’s & A’s, it might not be the right time to apply. You probably do not YET have the right set of skills and could face significant challenges if you got the job.
BUT you now have a list of skills / experiences that you need to gain to help you be the right candidate in the future. Make them into a plan and start working on them. We can help you ensure that the plan is successful.
If your combined G’s & A’s outnumber the R’s, why not grab the opportunity and apply for that dream job?
As you apply, think about how you can mitigate the areas where you have scored yourself as an R.
Employers are not always looking for a perfect fit; they often want someone with enough skills who can learn, develop, and deliver.
Give yourself the opportunity and take the chance – make your dream become reality
